Infidelity
I read something very disturbing yesterday, a newpaper article on Buaya Wives. I've thought that the lack of love or incompatibility can cause relationship problems but I didn't know that women of today are big players in the world of ONS (one-night-stands).
In the past, perhaps many guys who couldn't control their sexual urges go around having mistresses or sleeping around. Those were the days when gender differences and discrimination was very evident. The women felt oppressed and somehow swallowed the pride down to accept what their spouse has done.
Yet today (referring to the article), it is amazing that someone such as Janice (a psuedo-name that the journalist gave her), can still say, 'With my husband, there is love. With other men, it's purely for fun and excitement. No strings attached.' What is this world coming to? Is the word Love becoming cheap? Has the true meaning of Love been tainted? Perhaps it's the way the society is becoming more open, but if there is Love present, shouldn't there be complete trust as well?
Freedom may be what most people are looking for, and the freedom to do anything seems to be very tempting. Yet freedom comes with a price, it comes tagged with the word responsibility. How responsible is 'Janice' towards her husband? or her children? The very fact that she has used the word Love to describe her feelings for her husband and yet cheat on her husband the very same says very much about her character as well as how much she loves her husband and family.
Financially, the modern woman may be able to sustain her own life, but that does not allow them to cheat on their husbands when the poor chap is working OT (over-time) in office for the family (note, I do not mean to say that guys still won't cheat, but its only the minority that gives us guys the stereotypical role of a cheating husband).
Sex, Lies and Videotapes
Ignore the videotapes part, but somehow sex and lies seems to be very apt for the topic of infidelity. Recent news articles featured in the newpaper has shown that more women are taking their spouse for granted and cheat on them more for one main reason - Sex.
It seems like in recent years the guys have become more meek and conservative (a common trait of females in the past) and are not responding well in bed with their partners (with reference to the article). Women of today are more active in their sex life and the guys of today somehow can't size up to their level of satisfaction, but does this mean the woman can cheat on her boyfriend/husband just to satisfy the sexual needs?
Furthermore, they lie about their whereabouts just to have romps with guys that they pick up (likewise for guys who cheat on their wives or girlfriends who lie to their partners just to fool around). From the news articles in the recent month, it seems like women want more in their sexual life, and are bold enough to try anything even though they know that they will be cheating on their other half.
Ponder
What has happened today? It’s very disturbing to know that with an open-minded society, we are getting more of such cases of infidelity coming from the female group (and they are not afraid to admit it to anyone, anyone but their other half though…).
Most women would think of this as a welcoming move, as it finally gives them a reason to ‘pay back’ what their male counterparts have been doing for ages. But think again, did society have anything to do with how this stereotypical image of guys? Does it mean that all guys fit into this stereotype of being a ‘womaniser’?
Men have feelings too (exclude those players in the field) and are starting to be more emotional than before. Women out there (whether you are a player or not), please look carefully before deciding to hurt a man – be it by having sexual romps, or by emotionally hurting him, the after effects of hurting a man can be very devastating (some men just go crazy and inflict violence on the women who hurt them emotionally, some men just attempt suicide – and many do end up as suicide, some men (which is a minority) will just give up the relationship quietly, etc.).
We really need to look into the social values of today’s open-minded world, and seek a way to resolve all this unnecessary suffering. Being truthful is one of the ways, being responsible to the one you love is also another.
